Consumer orientation, quality and innovation are the basis for our success. Theo Müller was one of the first in the market to recognize the valuable ingredients contained in whey, which is traditionally considered a by-product of cheese production. And so he began to filter these valuable ingredients out of the whey from the plant’s own cheese dairies and, over time, break them down into ever finer components, so that they could be specifically used to enhance various food applications. He thus laid the foundation stone for our business unit. Milk & Whey Ingredients by Sachsenmilch´s core business is the production of high-quality milk and whey ingredients. Pioneering spirit is what drives us forward. Developing and manufacturing top-quality ingredients for various high-end applications are our passion. “Consumer orientation, quality and innovation are the basis for our success.” – Theo Müller was always one step ahead of his time. In 1971 he took over the dairy in Aretsried (Bavaria) founded by his grandfather in 1896. At that time Theo Müller had only four employees.
Today the family-owned company has around 31,700 employees and an annual sales of 7.0 billion euros. The company is operating internationally in the food sector and has numerous strong brands in the dairy, deli and services business.

Leppersdorf – Home of Sachsenmilch
Our flagship site at Leppersdorf near Dresden is one of the largest investment projects in the history of the Unternehmensgruppe Theo Müller. Since 1994, almost 1 billion euros has flowed into construction and expansion of the most unique dairy in Europe – perhaps even the world. Today, around 3,000 people are employed at the site. The milk delivered – approximately 1.7 billion kg per year – is used for a wide range of products and processed in five production areas: UHT milk, butter, fresh products, cheese and milk & whey ingredients, thereby achieving 100% utilization of the raw milk product.
Our own gas and steam turbine powerplant supplies us with almost all the heat and electricity we require. The fuel used for the powerplant is natural gas, most of which comes from our own biogas plant. We also consider it important to make responsible use of another natural resource: water. With our in-house water treatment system, we can save up to 4.5 million liters of fresh water per day. In this way, we play our part in conserving the environment.
Our goal is to manufacture our products using exceptional, efficient and sustainable practices. We use the most modern technology available to make the best possible use of natural resources.
